Sawtell Uniting Church is an active part of not only the close by Sawtell village and its small community (3,600) – which was first settled in the late 1800s and gazetted as a town in 1927 after the railway came through a few years before – but serves the wider Bonville, Boambee, Boambee East, and Toormina communities

The district population is approaching 20,000. It is within the City of Coffs Harbour (pop. 79,000) and situated between Coffs Harbour and Urunga.

As well as being famed for its sunny climate, lovely beaches, Sawtell’s First Avenue shopping, eating out and cinema strip and Boambee and Bonville Creeks, the district has a major shopping and local services centre at Toormina, shops at Boambee East, and it includes light industrial areas. There are three licensed clubs in Sawtell:  Sawtell Bowling Club, Sawtell Golf Club, and Sawtell RSL.

There are active services clubs (Lions and Rotary, and Country Womens Association), many sporting groups, and lots of active mutual interest groups to chose from.  Tourist accommodation is available at caravan parks, and motels.

The district includes public primary schools at Sawtell, Bayldon (Toormina), Boambee, and a High School at Toormina. Private schools include Mary Help of Christians Primary School. Out of district are John Paul College and Bishop Druitt College.
